TOWN OF DAVIE FIRE STATION 86 AND COMMUNITY CENTER IS RECOGNIZED AS A LEED CERTIFIED BUILDING

DAVIE, Fla. - As part of ongoing sustainability efforts, the Town of Davie’s Fire Station 86 and Community Center located at 14651 SW14th St. was recognized as a LEED certified building by U.S. Green Building Council & Green Business Certification, Inc. on April 1, 2022.

A LEED certification is a globally recognized symbol of sustainability achievement and leadership. It provides a framework for healthy, efficient, carbon and cost-saving green buildings and is aimed at rewarding sustainable and environmentally friendly decisions that are part of the construction process.

Featuring over 14,000 square feet of space and energy-efficient lighting, Fire Station 86 opened its doors on March 6, 2020. The building's construction included rated materials such as filled cell concrete block walls, steel roof trusses, metal roofing and impact-resistant windows.

To achieve LEED certification, a project earns points by adhering to prerequisites and credits that address carbon, energy, water, waste, transportation, materials, health and indoor environmental quality. Projects go through a verification and review process by GBCI and are awarded points that correspond to a level of LEED certification. The points awarded for the Fire Station 86 and Community Center project the town earned a total of 42 points.

“Sustainability continues to be an essential component for our community as we work to protect our environment for generations to come,” said Mayor Judy Paul. “The LEED certification for Fire Station 86 reaffirms and bolsters our stance as a leading community for sustainable actions. This certification is the first of many and I am proud to have this designation assigned to a town facility.”
