DAVIE, Fla. – On Wednesday, Dec. 1, 2021, the Davie Town Council reviewed and approved a new district boundary map for the Town of Davie.
The redistricting occurred as a result of the Town’s population data collected during the 2020 U.S. Census. On Sept. 30, 2021, the U.S. Census released the information at the municipal district level for those individuals who participated in the decennial process. The data revealed that the Town of Davie’s population increased by 14.9%, equivalent to 105,695 from 91,986 in 2010.
In preparation for the release of this data, on July 28, 2021, the Town Council satisfied the requirement stipulated under Section 7(A)(2)(d) of the Town Charter by appointing two (2) qualified members from their respective geographical district to serve on the District Boundaries Review Committee to review and recommend district boundary changes, if found necessary.
Subsequently, in Oct. 2021, the District Boundaries Review Committee held three meetings and with the assistance of a subject-matter expert, at their final meeting on Oct. 25, 2021, the Committee voted unanimously and approved the selection of Plan 01-A as the recommended geographical “qualifying district boundaries.”
At the Nov. 17, 2021, District Boundary Workshop, the Town Council reviewed the Committee’s recommendation. At a public hearing held on Dec. 1, 2021, they unanimously passed Plan 01-A (Map) as recommended by the District Boundaries Review Committee.
The new district boundaries Plan 01-A (Map) took effect upon the ordinance's adoption on Dec. 1, 2021. The legal description is being prepared for transmittal to the State and Broward County Supervisor of Elections. As a result of the municipal boundary changes, the Broward County Supervisor of Elections will reissue new voter registration cards next year prior to the commencement of the election cycle.
