FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
MARCH 11, 2021
TOWN OF DAVIE TO CHLORINATE WATER SYSTEM IN HACIENDA VILLAGE
Water Treatment Scheduled for April 6 to April 27, 2021
DAVIE, Fla – The Town of Davie will temporarily switch to free chlorine for utilities customers located in Hacienda Village on April 6, 2021, through April 27, 2021, for preventative maintenance. This routine procedure provides additional protection against bacteria.
The temporary treatment of the water system is a common practice for water suppliers that uses chlorine disinfection. This periodic program is recommended by the Florida Department of Health.
Free chlorine is a common practice for water systems using chloramines for disinfection. The chlorination period is anticipated to be transparent to our customers; however, some may notice a slight change in the taste or smell of their tap water. In addition, residents may see water running from fire hydrants in their neighborhoods, which is part of the normal maintenance process.
This procedure will only affect utilities customers in Hacienda Village (see map below).
Special considerations:
Kidney dialysis centers, nephrologists, and hospitals were notified in order to make any adjustments necessary in the various processes in which they operate. Any questions regarding kidney dialysis should be directed to the user's doctor or dialysis specialist.
Some aquatic and marine animal species are sensitive to free chlorine. Individuals maintaining aquariums with any sensitive species may wish to contact their pet supply stores regarding dechlorination.
For more information, please contact the Town of Davie Utilities Customer Service at 954-327-3742 during normal operating hours from 8:30 a.m. to 5 p.m. or call 954-327-3750 (after hours).
