PARKS, RECREATION AND CULTURAL ARTS EVENT AND PROGRAM UPDATES

DAVIE, Fla. – The Town of Davie understands that while the services offered by our Parks, Recreation and Cultural Arts Department is important to the community, the health, welfare, and safety of our residents during the COVID-19 pandemic remains a top priority.
In the upcoming year, the Town is changing the operations of two longstanding and iconic events. The details are as follows:
Special Events
Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. Dav
In honor of Dr. King’s legacy as a civil rights leader, the Town of Davie will be hosting a virtual celebration for the annual Martin Luther King, Jr. Day Ceremony on January 18, 2021. The event will kick off at 10 a.m. and feature excerpts from Dr. King’s “I Have a Dream” speech, poetry contest winners, guest speakers, and guest musical performances.
Orange Blossom Festival, Parade and Rodeo Update
The Town regrettably announces that the annual 2021 in-person Orange Blossom Festival, Parade, and Rodeo traditionally held on the last Saturday of February is canceled. To pay tribute to Davie’s heritage and agricultural roots, the Town of Davie Parks, Recreation and Cultural Arts Department and the Old Davie School Historical Museum will hold weekly Davie trivia contests, a Town-wide scavenger hunt, a virtual concert, and share videos and photos of Davie throughout the years during the month of February 2021.
Virtual Recreation Center
The Town’s Virtual Recreation Center (VREC) offers a variety of free, fun, and educational activities and resources for the entire family. VREC provides virtual classes in art, jazzercise, meditation, and more. To view videos, visit https://www.davie-fl.gov/1281/Virtual-Recreation-Center.
Playground Information
On December 9, 2020, the Town of Davie reopened a select number of playgrounds. from 9 a.m. to sunset. To view a list of open parks and playgrounds, visit www.davie-fl.gov/1308/Reopening-Information.
Visitors should be prepared to comply with all CDC guidelines and social distancing measures. Per Broward County Emergency Order 20-29, visitors are required to wear face coverings, maintain at least a six-feet distance from individuals outside of their party, can participate in limited active and passive uses by individuals and families, cannot gather in groups larger than ten and follow current Centers for Disease Control and Prevention guidelines.
Parks staff, Park Rangers, and Police personnel will conduct periodic checks to ensure compliance with CDC guidelines. A daily sanitization of each of the open playgrounds will be conducted prior to opening at 9 a.m. Any violations may result in the closure of the playground. Please note that park restrooms will not be open.
Please remember to stay home if you are sick, practice social distancing, avoid crowded areas, wash or sanitize your hands frequently, and use facial coverings. Community cooperation is critical for the Town to the enter this phased opening.
