LONG-SERVING TOWN OF DAVIE COUNCILMEMBER BRYAN CALETKA RESIGNS

DAVIE, Fla. – Town of Davie Councilmember Bryan Caletka announced his resignation from the Davie Town Council to pursue a career as the Director of Transportation and Policy for the Broward County Metropolitan Planning Organization (MPO).

Councilmember Caletka is resigning after serving more than five terms in office. The resignation is effective Monday, August 17, 2020, at noon. Councilmember Caletka was first elected to the Davie Town Council in March 2006 and has served as the District 1 representative for over 14 years. The Town Council plans to appoint a successor at a future meeting to fill the rest of the term through the 2022 election when the office will be on the ballot.

Councilmember Caletka’s premise for seeking a seat on the Davie Town Council in 2006, was to ensure that the voice of the residents was heard, residents were represented, and the safety and wellbeing of the community was assured.

“I remember when Bryan first ran for office, how eager he was to serve his community and to be a positive role model for those who were interested in entering politics”, said Mayor Judy Paul. During his campaign, he personally went door-to-door to speak with his neighbors and members of the community to see how he could provide assistance and resources for them, what were their concerns, and to share his vision for District 1. This is bittersweet for me - I am happy he is advancing in his career, but I am sad to see him go. It has been an honor and a privilege to serve with him.”

During his tenure, Councilmember Caletka has been responsible for presenting initiatives to promote fiscal prudence, manage development, and expand transportation opportunities. As a result of the Councilmember’s recommendation, the Town delayed refinancing General Obligation bonds resulting in a $9 million savings. He also introduced the requirement of a supermajority vote for any increase in intensity or zoning to protect the Town’s development character. In addition, as a Davie Community Redevelopment Agency (CRA) member, Councilmember Caletka brought sewer services, drainage improvements, and fire suppression enhancements at no cost to over 300 homes through the Eastside Infrastructure project as well as affordable housing. Councilmember Caletka’s legacy will be his leadership in regional transportation as he served on behalf of the Town as its Broward County Metropolitan Planning Organization (MPO) representative. He rose to the chairmanship of the Broward MPO and served as the Chair of the South East Florida Transportation Council and a Board Member of the National Association of Regional Councils representing the States of Florida and Georgia. He has now advanced to a staff executive position for the MPO to carry on the transportation initiatives for all of Broward County.
