PROJECT NOTIFICATION – DAVIE WETLANDS PARK
DAVIE, Fla. – Beginning the week of May 25, 2020, the Town of Davie will begin clearing the 115-acres Davie Wetlands Park property (formerly known as Van Kirk), located at the northeast corner of SW 136th Avenue and SW 26th Street, of invasive plant species, including trees. All Australian Pine trees along the perimeter of the property will be removed. Most of the trees will be cut and then stump grinded. Debris will be chipped on site, if possible, otherwise debris will be removed through the gate located at SW 136th Avenue and SW 26th Street. The swale area north of SW 26th Street will have the entire root system removed and this area will be regraded and sodded. Subsequently, a guardrail will be installed along the road for safety.
During this removal process, the Town will protect approximately eight acres of existing wetland area delineated by Broward County and will preserve the native trees including the oak cluster on the north side of the property. The project hours will be 7:30 a.m. to 5:00 p.m., Monday through Friday. The project is anticipated to be completed by October 2020.
In preparation for this work, the Town conducted an animal survey and has taken all necessary precautions including the hiring of a contractor to trap and relocate animals prior to commencement of the operation.
In the coming months, the Town will begin the next steps towards designing the future Davie Wetlands Park. To monitor the project progress, please visit the Davie Wetlands Park (formerly Van Kirk) webpage on the Town’s website.
This project notification is being disseminated via mailings to properties within 1,000 feet of the project site, social media, the Town website and email newsletters.
