SEPTEMBER 16, 2019

DAVIE, Fla. -The Town of Davie is pleased to announce that its Risk Manager Jose Lugo was named Risk Management Professional of the Year by the Public Risk Underwriters of Florida, Inc. The award is given to risk management professionals who have demonstrated superior knowledge of the risk management field, experienced professional advancement through educational pursuits and demonstrated leadership in the field.

Lugo was selected from over 400 preferred members of the Public Risk Underwriters of Florida, Inc. During his first year at the Town of Davie, he reimplemented various safety and risk procedures to protect residents, town personnel and town property.

Risk management professionals seek to identify, analyze and document the risks associated with a company's business operations, as well as monitor the effectiveness of risk management processes and implement needed changes.

In 2010, Lugo received his Bachelors in Criminal Justice from Florida International University (FIU). He is expected to complete FIU’s Master in Business Administration program in April 2020. On August 21, 2019, he was recognized by the Mayor and Town Council members at the towns council meeting where he received his award.

Lugo is currently a member of the Florida chapter of the Public Risk Management Association (PRIMA) and the Broward County chapter for the Risk Management Society (RIMS). These organizations promote effective risk management in the public interest as an essential component of public administration.

“Safety is paramount in ensuring our employees and residents are taken care of,” Lugo said. “One of the key components of being a risk manager is implementing various policies and procedures so that everyone can enjoy everything this town has to offer. I am honored to receive this award and I could not have done it without the help of my amazing team.”

Human Resources Director Grace Garagozzo said that Lugo has played a crucial role in assisting the town with its safety needs.

“This award highlights his talent and dedication for the field,” said Garagozzo. “Through the development and implementation of various safety policies, Mr. Lugo’s involvement has continually allowed the town to progressively move forward in the risk management field.”
