Davie, Fla., - The Town of Davie Utilities Department is commencing its meter replacement program beginning on Tuesday, July 9, 2019. The process will take approximately four to five months to complete and will only impact residents who receive a water bill from the Town of Davie. Utility Metering Solutions (UMS) is contracted to perform the meter replacements throughout the Davie service area (see map).

Below are some frequently asked questions and concerns pertaining to the meter change-out process:

1. Why are you replacing my water meter?

Water meters and their registers often lose accuracy as they age. Therefore, they must be replaced. The new system will include new water meter technology that will save on labor, time and accuracy.

2. How much will the new water meter cost me?

There is no charge to individual customers for the meter replacement. The new meters are an investment in the Town’s infrastructure that will improve billing efficiency and customer service.

3. Why was my water service interrupted during the installation?

The installer will turn off the water on either side of your old meter during the installation. Once installation is completed, your service will resume. The installer will attempt to purge any air trapped in the line. If air remains in the line, you may notice a sputtering sound the first time you operate a fixture. This should only last a few seconds and will not cause any harm. You can remove any additional air trapped in your line by running cold water for a few minutes. The first few gallons of water may be discolored.

4. Will my water rate change because of the new water meter?

Your water rate will not change because of the newly installed water meter.

5. Does this mean my bill will be increasing?

The new water meter will not necessarily increase your bill. However, in some cases, your bill may increase, but only if your current meter is under-registering usage. Presently, most residents are paying for the water they actually use, while some residents are only paying for a portion of the water. This condition is not fair to all customers. The new meters will ensure fairness for all customers.

6. Which company is contracted to replace water meters for the Town of Davie utilities?

Utility Metering Solutions (UMS) is contracted to perform the meter replacements. All vehicles owned by the contractor as well as employees of UMS is identifiable by their logo. Employees will also be able to provide identification upon request.

If you have any additional questions or concerns regarding the meter replacement program, please contact the Utilities Department at 954-327-3742.
