Davie Utilities Department To Use Chlorine In Drinking Water, March 15 - April 19, 2019

The Town of Davie Utilities Department will temporarily return to the method of using free chlorine as part of an annual preventive maintenance program March 15 through April 19, 2019. This notice impacts residents who receive their utility bill from the Town of Davie or Ferncrest Utilities. This routine procedure provides additional protection against bacteria and is a common practice for systems using combined chlorine.

The temporary treatment of the water system is a common practice for water suppliers that uses chlorine disinfection. This periodic program is recommended by the Florida Department of Health.

The procedure does not cause any adverse health effects. The chlorination period is anticipated to be transparent to water customers, however, some individuals may notice a slight change in the taste, odor or color of the water during this time.

Special Considerations

Kidney dialysis centers, nephrologists and hospitals were notified in order to make any adjustments necessary in the various processes in which they operate. Any questions regarding kidney dialysis should be directed to the user's doctor or dialysis specialist. Some aquatic and marine animal species are sensitive to free chlorine; persons maintaining aquariums with any sensitive species may wish to contact their pet supply stores regarding dechlorination.

Information about drinking water and health is available on the Environmental Protection Agency’s website (https://www.epa.gov/ground-water-and-drinking-water), and through the Safe Drinking Water Hotline: 1-800-426-4791.

The Town of Davie Utilities Department maintains the highest standards to ensure clean, high quality drinking water is delivered to its customers. The Town’s drinking water meets all federal, state, and local drinking water quality standards. View the free chlorination fact sheet.
