Broward
County Mosquito Control will be conducting spraying by truck to
combat the adult mosquito population, following the rain events of last week
which produced flood conditions and standing water. The sprayings will
conducted between midnight and 6 a.m., starting tonight and will continue throughout
the week.
Broward County will be utilizing a naturally occurring,
biodegradable bacterial mosquito larvicide which is not harmful to humans,
pets, aquatic habitats or environmentally sensitive areas. As a precautionary
measure, residents with breathing difficulties should remain indoors.
Residents are encouraged to protect themselves by wearing
long sleeves or mosquito repellent and eliminate standing water around their
homes. Keep in mind that the type of mosquito that carry viruses are
“urban” mosquitoes that breed near your homes and they bite all day long.
Broward County Mosquito Control Section also treats areas
of the County based on requests received from residents. To request service
online, complete the Mosquito
Spray Request Form. Requests can also be made by calling
954-765-4062.
Residents are the first line of defense when it comes to
combatting any mosquito. Broward County Mosquito Control encourages all
residents and business owners to survey their property and remove any standing
water, and any vessels that can hold standing water, such as flower pots, pet
bowls, children’s toys, bottle caps, etc. For more information on what you can
do to protect your property and yourselves, visit this website.
