The City of Sunrise Utilities Department WillUse Free Chlorine Disinfection now through June 1, 2018 The City of Sunrise Utilities Department willtemporarily return to the method of using free chlorine as part of an annualpreventive maintenance program now through June 1, 2018. This noticeimpacts residents who receive their utility bill from the City of Sunrise. This is aroutine procedure providing additional protection against bacteria and is acommon practice for systems using combined chlorine.This temporary treatment of the water system is a common practice for watersuppliers that use a chlorine (chloramine) water treatment method. Thisperiodic program is recommended by the Florida Department of Health. The procedure does not cause any adverse health effects. However, someindividuals may notice a slight change in the taste, odor, or color of thewater during this time. Special Considerations Regarding ChlorinationKidney dialysis centers, nephrologists and hospitals have been notified inorder for them to make any adjustments necessary in the various processes whichthey operate. Any questions regarding kidneydialysis should be directed to the user's doctor or dialysis specialist.Some aquatic and marine animal species are sensitive to free chlorine; personsmaintaining aquariums with anysensitive species may wish to contact their pet supply stores regardingdechlorination.
