SAVE A LIFE, STOP THE BLEED

"Stop the Bleed" is a nationwide campaign to empower individuals to act quickly and save lives.

Davie Fire Rescue has joined the “Stop the Bleed” initiative, and we will be providing two (2) FREE “Stop the Bleed” training classes on Tuesday, November 14, 2017, from 1:00 to 2:00 p.m., and from 5:30 to 6:30 p.m., for up to 30 people per class.  The training will show you how to stop severe bleeding and also will provide training on hands-only CPR.  To register, call Davie Fire Rescue Administration at 954-797-1213. Class size is limited.

No matter how rapid the arrival of professional emergency responders, bystanders will always be first on the scene. A person who is bleeding can die from blood loss within five minutes; therefore, it is important to quickly stop the blood loss.

Get Involved - Call 911. Be aware of your surroundings, and move yourself and the injured person to safety, if necessary.

Bystanders can take simple steps to keep the injured person alive until appropriate medical care is available. Here are three actions you can take to help save a life:

Compress – Hold steady, and firmly direct pressure on a bleeding wound.

Tourniquet – If the direct pressure does not stop the bleeding and the wound is on the arm or the leg, apply a tourniquet above the bleeding site and tighten until the bleeding stops.

Compress Again – If the bleeding still does not stop: If the wound is on the neck, shoulder, or groin, pack the wound with bleeding control (hemostatic) gauze (preferred) or any clean gauze. Hold steady, and firmly direct pressure.

We hope you register for this free class and learn how to stop the bleed.  YOU CAN SAVE A LIFE.
