FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
JULY 21, 2022
THE TOWN OF DAVIE UTILITIES DEPARTMENT WILL USE FREE CHLORINE DISINFECTION FROM AUGUST 12 TO SEPTEMBER 9, 2022
DAVIE, Fla. – The Town of Davie Utilities Department will temporarily return to using free chlorine disinfection in its water treatment system beginning August 12 to September 9, 2022. This notice only impacts residents serviced by the Town of Davie (see Davie Utilities service on the map below).
The temporary treatment of the water system is a common practice for water suppliers that uses chlorine disinfection. The Florida Department of Health recommends this periodic program.
Free chlorine is a common practice for water systems using a chlorine (chloramine) water treatment method for disinfection. The procedure does not cause any adverse health effects and is safe for consumption. However, some individuals may notice a slight change in the water's taste, odor or color during this time. Neighbors may also see fire hydrants running, which is part of the normal maintenance process.
Special Considerations
Kidney dialysis centers, nephrologists and hospitals have been notified in order for them to make any adjustments necessary in the various processes in which they operate. Any questions regarding kidney dialysis should be directed to the user's doctor or dialysis specialist.
Some aquatic and marine animal species are sensitive to free chlorine; persons maintaining aquariums with any sensitive species may wish to contact their pet supply stores regarding dichlorination.
For more information, please contact the Town of Davie Utilities Department during regular operating hours Monday-Friday from 8:30 a.m. to 5 p.m. at 954-327-3742 or call 954-327-3750 after hours.
