Traffic/Motors Unit

19

Led by Captain Thomas, Lieutenant Bart, and Sergeant Castaneda, The Traffic Unit is tasked with traffic control and enforcement within the Town of Davie. The unit consists of one motor sergeant, four motor officers, three THI (Traffic Homicide Investigator) officers, and one CSA (Community Service Aide).  The members of this unit patrol in marked vehicles and motorcycles, specifically targeting drivers violating traffic laws, who may be under the influence of alcohol and/or drugs, and aggressive driving offenders. These officers are also trained in the investigation of traffic fatalities and serious injury crashes.  The Traffic Unit Community Service Aide conducts crash investigations including hit & run follow-up investigations, deployment of LPR (License Plate Reader) trailers, safety message board trailers, speed trailers, traffic control, and numerous other duties.

Unit members participate in enforcement campaigns such as “Arrive Alive”, “Click it or Ticket” and “Drive Sober or Get Pulled Over”.  These campaigns are set up to educate drivers about the effects of distracted driving and encourage all to do their part to keep our roadways, residents, and visitors safe.  They also participate in police escorts, parades, and numerous special events.
