Emergency Management

The Town of Davie is exposed to many hazards, all of which have the potential for disrupting the community, causing damage, and creating casualties. Possible natural hazards include hurricanes, floods, tornadoes, as well as forest and brush fires. There are also threats of incidents from such sources as nuclear, biochemical, or conventional attacks. To add to that, most of the Town of Davie is also in the direct flight path of the Fort Lauderdale/Hollywood International Airport. Other disaster situations could develop from a hazardous materials accident, conflagration, nuclear power plant accident, major transportation accident, terrorism, or civil disorder. The Fire Rescue Department oversees the Emergency Management Division. In the event of a major disaster, will be responsible for overseeing all aspects of the emergency management program and shall have direct responsibility for the organization, administration, and operation of emergency plans under the direction of the Fire Chief.

The phases of Emergency Management are Prevention, Mitigation, Preparedness, Response and Recovery. To enhance the Town of Davie Comprehensive Emergency Operations Plan (CEOP) the Town has developed the Town of Davie Emergency Management Procedure. The procedure is a working document to enhance the CEOP. In addition to the development of the CEOP and the Emergency Management Procedure the Town Emergency Management Division has worked with all Department/ Divisions to ensure compliance with all National Incident Management System (NIMS) regulations. Town personnel have been selected to participate in key positions in the emergency management organization chart and to participate in required NIMS training classes which are then put into action in simulated exercises as well as an actual activation.

The mission for Emergency Management in the Town of Davie is to provide a coordinated effort from all town departments in preparation for, response to, and recovery from local or widespread disasters or catastrophes. The Town of Davie CEOP describes how the Town will manage and coordinate resources and personnel during periods of a major emergency. Each Emergency Support Function (ESF) is the responsibility of specific Town departments. Departments with ESF responsibilities are charged with reviewing the document, recommending changes and implementing these changes once approved. Changes also will be incorporated in the Town of Davie CEOP.
