New Davie Town Hall
The Davie Town Council recently approved construction of a new Town Hall at the existing location, 6591 Orange Drive. The existing facility has significant issues with space, plumbing, electrical, air conditioning, façade deterioration and pest infestation. It is too costly to repair these issues with capital improvements as we will still fail to address American with Disability (ADA) requirements, technology improvements, building security and inadequate public meeting space.
As the Davie Town Hall and Bergeron Rodeo Grounds are landmarks in Downtown Davie Road, the Town Council felt it was important to demonstrate our investment in the ongoing redevelopment. In addition, the new Town Hall will be adjacent to another redevelopment project, Frontier Square, planned at the northwest corner of Orange Drive and Davie Road. Frontier Square is a 150,000 square foot entertainment venue with a parking garage. The new Town Hall will preserve the existing open space and be reflective of the western theme unique to the Town’s heritage.
During the construction of the new Town Hall, a Temporary Town Hall (TTH), consisting of modular buildings, will be located at Pine Island Park (see images below). Two park amenities will be relocated within the park (skateboarding and pickleball) to accommodate the TTH. Additional parking will be added from existing areas and will be a welcome addition to assist with the youth sports activities. Town Council meetings, workshops and committee meetings will be held at the Pine Island Multipurpose Center adjacent to the TTH.
It is anticipated that the TTH will be open in Summer/Fall 2020 and the demolishing of the former Town Hall occurring shortly thereafter. As of this time, a space study has been completed and a request for qualification has been advertised to select an architect to complete the design criteria package. Finance options are being prepared that will utilize existing revenues (no additional tax increase) to fund the temporary relocation as well as the design, development and furnishing of the new Town Hall. The grand reopening for Town Hall is anticipated in December 2022.
