Travel Baseball
NOTE: The Town of Davie maintains a 70/30 residency requirement for all travel teams.

Winter Travel Baseball Tryouts will be held on Monday, July 30, 2007.  A parent meeting will be held on the Dodger Field at 6:30 p.m.  We are looking forward to fielding teams for the Winter season begining with a 10 & Under division and going all the way up to a 14 & Under division.

Spring Travel Baseball Tryouts will begin on Wednesday, January 2, 2007 at 6:30 p.m. with an introductory prospective parent/participant meeting.  Once the Town evaluates how many interested participants we have in each age division, we will then determine which age divisions we will be able to field teams in.

For more information on any of our Town travel programs please contact our sports division at 954-327-3928 after 2pm daily.

Registration
Registration for our Fall Baseball program begins May 5, 2008.  Registration is open until Sunday, July 27, 2008.  Player ratings will be August 8, 2008.   Any person wishing to register after this date will be placed on a waiting list, unless the division they wish to register for is in need of players.

There will be a Winter Baseball program for children ages 9-14.  These will be strictly traveling teams with the best 13-14 players selected for each age division.  This registration will take place in early August.  Players competing on the Winter Baseball teams will be allowed to play both Winter Baseball and Tackle Football if they so desire.

Divisions
There are 6 age divisions in the boy’s baseball program.

Coach Pitch Division
Ages 5-7
Modified Atom Division
Ages 8-10
Modified Midget Division
Ages 11-13

Age is determined by how old your child is as of November 1 2008

Draft & Player Ratings
The Player Ratings and drafts for all age divisions are held August 8, 2008.  We ask that all children attend the draft if at all possible. Any child not attending the draft will be put into the blind pool and will be selected by the coaches at random at the conclusion of the draft.

Winter Baseball
In each age division a returning coach will be allowed to “freeze” players from his previous year’s team. The number of freezes per age division is as follows:

w T-ball                Full team
w Coach Pitch   Full team
w Atom          2 freezes (plus coach’s son)
w Bantam                2 freezes (plus coach’s son)
w Midget                2 freezes (plus coach’s son)
w Juvenile              2 freezes (plus coach’s son)

A coach moving from one division to another division will be allowed to freeze the allotted amount of players for that division from his team from the previous season.  NOTE:  Coaches moving from T-Ball & Coach Pitch to the Atom Division are NOT allowed to freeze anyone from their team other than their son or daughter.

A child who has not registered prior to the Player Ratings will not be allowed to be frozen. Any child selected in the blind pool will not be allowed to be frozen on the team that selects him/her the following season.
Due to insurance restrictions, no player is allowed to play in a higher or lower age division.

Player Equipment
The Town of Davie will provide hats, shirts, stirrup socks and baseball pants which are to be worn at all scheduled games.  Players shall provide the following equipment:  baseball glove and all purpose molded cleated shoes. The Sports Division also recommends that the participant wear a supporter and protective cup.  Metal or screws on cleats are not permitted.

Issued Equipment
Each coach will receive an equipment bag for his/her team.  The bag should have all the essential items for your team. Each coach is responsible for turning in their equipment at the end of the season. Failure to turn in this equipment can result in suspension from coaching in the programs.

Batting Cages
When your team wants to utilize the batting cages they will need to reserve time in the cage with the Field Supervisor.  Reservations for the cage can be made up to one week in advance, and are limited to a one hour time limit.  To be allowed to use the practice balls for the machines a coach will have to give his drivers license to a Sports Division employee until he has returned the balls to the office.

League Rules
The following is a list of rules that the Town of Davie uses in their programs. These are rules not covered in the Khoury League Rule Book. Each coach will receive a Khoury League Rule Book.

T-Ball Division
w There are no strikeouts
w No standings will be kept in the league
w Each player gets a turn at bat in each inning
w Games will consist of 3 full inning
w A runner must be at least halfway between bases when time is called to receive the next base

Coach Pitch
w There will be no standings taken in this program
w A player will get a maximum of 6 pitches to swing at, or 3 swings
w If a player fouls off the 6th pitch he will get another pitch
w If the ball should be caught or touched by the coach the play is dead
w Players are allowed to steal only after the pitch has crossed the plate
w There will be a maximum of 7 runs allowed per inning

Awards
Each participant in a Town of Davie Sports Program will receive a participation trophy at the conclusion of the program.  In baseball, any child named to an all-star squad will be given an additional trophy. Trophies for teams finishing in first place in those age divisions where standings are recorded will have a "First Place" notation placed on their trophy.

Overlapping Seasons
The Sports Division attempts to have each program completed prior to the start of another program.  When this situation is unavoidable, the sport in which your child signed up for first will be considered their Priority Sport and participation in that program will take precedence if conflicts with practices or games arise.

Additional Information
Additional information about any of the Towns Sports Programs is available by contacting the Sports Division staff at 954-327-3928 staff after 2:00 p.m.

Mail-In Registration
The Town currently has a policy which allows previous program participants to register for any sports program through a mail-in registration.  Each participant from the previous year is sent a blank registration in the mail. Should you wish to register your child in a program, just complete the registration form and return it to us with a copy of your child’s birth certificate and a proof of residency (current utility bill).  Upon receiving your registration the Town will send you a confirmation notice for the draft or tryout dates. Please make sure to fill out the registration completely and put down which complex your son or daughter will participate at.

Registration Requirements
When registering your child for a Town of Davie program, the following are required:
1. A copy of your child’s birth certificate.
2. Current proof of residency/current utility bill (phone, electric, or water bill).
3. A completed registration form.
4. The appropriate registration fee.

Refunds
Any person wishing a refund from a Sports Division program will need to return the uniform that his/her child has received and/or any equipment. There will also be a $10.00 administrative fee deducted from the refund.
