Town of Davie Appoints Julie Downey as Fire Chief
Town Administrator Richard J. Lemack announced the appointment of Julie Downey as Town of Davie Fire Rescue Chief effective Monday, May 9, 2016. Chief Downey is the first female fire chief to be appointed in Broward County, Florida.
In appointing the new Fire Chief, Mr. Lemack stated that “Chief Downey is overwhelmingly supported and recognized for her credentials, command presence, equitable leadership style, technological advancements, and interpersonal skills. She is a respected leader in the fire service and has been instrumental in advancing our department to have state of the art equipment, training and apparatus incorporating cost savings.” Her accomplishments in the area of emergency management and program advancement have been recognized locally, regionally, and nationally.
Chief Downey, a Davie resident has served 34 years in the fire rescue service and has been with the
Town of Davie for the past 12 years in the capacity of Battalion Chief and Assistant Fire Chief. She has earned degrees in Organizational Leadership, Nursing, Fire Sciences, and Emergency Management. Chief Downey has authored mass casualty incident procedures, EMS protocols, and numerous grants, lectured at conferences, instructs, and is appointed to task forces. Her certifications and professional memberships are impressive and attest to her ability to lead the Davie Fire Rescue Department.
