Councilmember
Bryan Caletka—District 1
Bryan Caletka was elected to the Davie Council March 14, 2006. Mr. Caletka represents the eastern portion of Davie, where he proudly resides. Although he lives and represents a single member district, all residents of Davie are encouraged to call Mr. Caletka with their concerns or comments.
The Eastside of Davie is home to the “Davie Greats” – the families that have been in Davie for generations. The Eastside of Davie is the most diverse of all the districts and is the highest in population density. Despite the differences between people, the eastside collectively can be considered one family. Since being elected, Mr. Caletka proudly boasts of record resident participation in district meetings substantiating his belief that the Eastside is one big family.
Mr. Caletka holds graduate degrees from the University of Texas system as well as from the University of Rochester. He moved to Davie after graduating from the University of Rochester, and found Davie the best community to call home due to its semi-rural lifestyle most similar to his hometown in Texas. Due to his strong educational background, he believes that Davie offers children a unique and superior quality of life due to the vast open space and quality schools that service the Davie youth. Upon graduation from excellent public schools, young men and women have ample opportunities to stay in Davie, as Davie is a nexus of higher education with several renowned Universities within the heart of the community.
During his first term, he has promised to negotiate a better bulk pickup schedule for his district and to vote against raising the Fire Assessment Tax. Mr. Caletka’s employment background is primarily academic in nature, and thus has solid experience in working with tight budgets derived from grants and tax dollars. Having worked in an environment where funding is scarce, Mr. Caletka has ambitious goals of lowering the tax rate and fighting future bonds that raise taxes through debt service. Given the unusually active hurricane seasons that have been recently experienced, Mr. Caletka hopes to strengthen Davie’s reserves so that we are always prepared to respond to emergencies.
