GENERAL STATEMENT OF JOB: Under general supervision, serves as program assistant performing a variety of clerical and secretarial administrative duties requiring an awareness of virtually everything happening in an office or department.  Characteristic of this position is the involvement in the work of the supervisor with emphasis in composition and public contact functions.  The employee must exercise independent judgment and initiative in completing assignments and handling public contact situations.  Reports to a division supervisor or department head.
MINIMUM TRAINING AND EXPERIENCE: Graduation from high school, including or supplemented by courses in typing and business practices and 1 to 2 years of experience in secretarial or clerical work, preferably including the operation of computer driven word processing, spreadsheet and file maintenance programs; or any equivalent combination of training and experience which provides the required knowledge, skills and abilities.
ADDITIONAL JOB FUNCTIONS: Files and retrieves materials based on full knowledge of organization and activities. Screens and independently handles calls and visitors; gives and gathers a variety of information utilizing knowledge of programs and procedures.  Attends conferences, hearings and other meetings to take and transcribe notes of conversation and testimony.  Maintains contact with field personnel regarding office activities and deadlines. Performs other related work as required.

PAY RANGE:  $29,331 - $39,306/YR
