Davie Park Wins $5,000 in Staples Dream Park Contest
The Town of Davie’s Driftwood Estates Park has won the third-place price in the Staples Inc. Dream Park Challenge. When the voting ended on Thursday, April 10, Davie’s park had 21,868 votes that made Driftwood Estates Park the winner of a $5,000 prize to be used for park improvements.

When Parks and Recreation Director Dennis Andresky announced that a Davie park would participate in the Staples contest, Davie employees and residents got to work right away to set up a game plan to win a prize. Flyers and posters were made and distributed throughout the Town. E-mails were sent out as reminders to vote. Notices were posted on the Town’s website and on Davie TV (Comcast Channel 78 and BellSouth Channel 71.)  As Town employees greeted each other every morning, they reminded each other to vote for Driftwood Estates Park and to also visit a Staples store to pick up a “Power Card” for 10 extra votes.

Davie Town Administrator Gary Shimun said: “I am proud of the fact that our community came together, employees and residents, to make this dream possible. It was truly a team effort, and I would like to thank everyone.”

Many individuals worked hard on this endeavor. Parks and Recreation employee Courtney Tennyson said “I spent lots of time calling my friends in the evenings to remind them to vote every day for Davie’s park, and I asked them to make calls to remind their friends and family to vote. I’m glad it worked.”

Gay Moo Young who works in the Programs Division said “I picked up a Power Card almost every day, and asked everyone at work to do the same. I spent my lunch time doing this and it was worth it.”

According to Dennis Andresky, the prize money will be used to make playground improvements. “The cash prize will help us provide our children with a better playground,” stated Andresky.
